David Y. Rhee, MD
Dr. Rhee hails from Southern California and graduated with honors from Harvard University, with a B.A. in Biology. After graduating from medical school at the University of California – San Diego, he then attended Tufts University for his residency in Ophthalmology. Dr. Rhee completed his 2-year fellowship for medical and surgical training in diseases of the retina, vitreous and uvea at the world-renown Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was awarded the William H. Tasman Outstanding Fellow award.
He has authored many articles in the ophthalmic literature and is the author of several book chapters. He has been a co-investigator in several national studies on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular disease. He serves as a reviewer for the journals Ophthalmology and Retina, and is section co-editor of Retina Times, the journal of the American Society of Retina Specialists, where he writes a recurring column about technology in the retina field. Dr. Rhee has helped trained countless residents in ophthalmology and retinal disease and has been voted Teacher of the Year for multiple years by the Northwell Health/Hofstra University School of Medicine Ophthalmology residency. He currently holds an academic title of Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Hofstra Medical School.
Dr. Rhee is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He was selected as a representative of the Young Ophthalmology Society of the NY State Ophthalmological Society and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member and has served as past president of the Long Island Ophthalmologic Society and he has been selected as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly.
His areas of interest include macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease including diabetic retinopathy, myopia, retinal detachments and small incision retinal surgery.
